Encouragement is personal.
I discussed how we can always survive the snares of discouragement in the previous devotion.
But I will like to mention here that the matter of encouragement is primarily individualistic.
In other words, no one can encourage you like the way you can encourage yourself. I make bold to say that no matter the magnitude of external discouragement, your internal courage will always carry you through.
At the same time, no amount of external encouragement can help someone who is completely internally discouraged.
Your inner life is what sustains you on the outside and not the other way around.
Give Attention to Development of Healthy and Strong Inner Life
One of the problems that usually affect most of us is a misplaced priority on our public lives with little or total negligence of the development of our inner strengths and character.
But the truth is, we cannot travel without farther than we have gone within. We are always as strong as our inner lives. And this is the reason we need to give attention to the strength of our inner lives.
We live in new times that demand a different approach to life as guided by the Scriptures.
The world today is getting complicated. We are faced always with demands and challenges at the home front, work place and in our personal lives.
Most times, we confront the unexpected and challenges that want to bring our lives into a state of halt.
Sometimes there are criticisms and oppositions from people who ought to be encouragers but have suddenly turned themselves to enemies. Yet in all these, we must learn how to be self encouraged.
We cannot afford to surrender to these pressures. We must be self encouraged by drawing strength from the reservoir of our spiritual tank.
In other words, we need to switch our focus from the mess around us to the living message of hope, guidance and assurance of Christ’s love in the Scriptures.
We must be people who live by the Book. Living only by every Word that proceeds from the Mouth of God. It is by doing this we can be self encouraged in the midst of all the pressures of this world.
Father, thank You for Your Word! Please Quicken everyone reading this by Your Word.
We cannot travel farther than we have gone within. We are always as strong as our inner lives.”
