“Fear of the Lord teaches wisdom; humility precedes honour” (Proverbs 15:33 NLT).
Humility is the best way to get true honour. It is indispensable in rising to the top. It has been the secret of every great achiever God used for His highest purpose.
Without humility as a virtue, failure and dishonor will be inevitable. In the University of Success, humility is not elective, it is a core course. Pride is the opposite nature of humility and it is the express way to destruction. Those who want to be honoured in life can never have it with pride.
It is the fear of the Lord that teaches wisdom; but before anyone will be honoured, humility must pave the way. Honour is not something we demand, it is a reward we get through humility. The higher we want to get in life, the humbler we must become. The people God enlist for greatness and honour in life are those who clothe themselves with humility.
But at the root of every strife and conflict both in homes and organizations lies the sin of pride. Wherever there is humility, there will be mutual understanding, co-operation, peace, joy, and progress. It is self –exaltation that sometimes caused different problems we face in relationships and marriages today.
I think we need to ask God to clothe us with the virtue of humility and meekness. This was the secret of Jesus’ greatness (See Philippians 2:1-11), and others who really enjoyed great honour in life.
